Earthy, grassy, and pungently sweet Haitian Vetiver combined with a small but uplifting kick of Lemongrass. (Essential Oil)
I wanted to try a Mutton tallow soap and I would say it works very well. The scent for me could be heavier on the Vetiver side and less Lemon but that's my opinion. Never the less it is a great scent and the performance is right on target with the other Stirling soaps. It's definitely a keeper---------- Unknown on 20th May 2017
I love the aroma! Spicy, fresh, vegetal. Dave on 13th May 2017
I have been using this soap for about 30 days straight now (mon-fri) and I have to say this is the slickest soap I have ever used. I really enjoy the earthy root type scent of the vetiver and lemongrass. It just keeps growing on me. It may leap to the top 3 in my collection before long. What a fantastic soap. **I apologize for my last review as I kept calling it "veviter". Jeff on 7th May 2017
I went out hunting for the scent of veviter before I dove into this soap so I knew what to expect. I am a massive fan of earthy scents but veviter was one I was unfamiliar with. I really like this soap. This soaps builds amazing lather, has a deep earthy, plant type scent with a nice citrus touch from the lemongrass. Very fresh. I feel like I'm gardening in the shire when I use the aftershave and soap.

First, the move to the mutton tallow base for this soap was a genius move. I find that the mutton tallow leaves my face feeling more nourished and moisturizer than the beef tallow for some reason, plus it whips up a rich lather in a hurry! The scent is the other heavy-hitter here, and it is heavy on vetiver! To me it's dark, deep, earthy, but brighter thanks to the addition of the lemongrass. Like moist soil but cleaner and more intoxicating. I get whifs of it throughout my day and they just make me want to go back to my sink to lather up again! I wish they had included the clay like in the previous version, but I'm sure Rod and Mandy have excellent reasons for that omission, and I certainly think they hit another home run with this. A very nice vetiver scent that delivers amazing slickness. This may be the slickest Stirling soap I've tried. It's nothing short of outstanding!! Matt on 13th Mar 2016
I ordered a sample puck of this just to try it and I am glad I did. I have no idea what Vetiver is or what it is supposed to smell like. That being said, I love the smell of this soap. The best I can describe it is a very fresh, lemony smell. Maybe like cutting up lemons on a warm spring day? Not citrusy lemon but a smooth, sweet lemon on a refreshing spring day. I hope that makes any sense at all, lol. The scent strength on this is a little stronger than some of the others from Stirling which is good too!. My bathroom smells very clean and fresh after my shave with it. As far as the shave itself goes, it is great as usual from Stirling. Very easy to lather with great slickness and protection. I think the addition of french green clay helps with the protection and glide also. I feel even less of the blade on my skin when I use this and it also seems to be a little harder to rinse off. In other words, the clay makes this soap even more resilient to provide good protection. Adam From CT on 13th Feb 2016
I got this one as a sample shipment of 6. I threw this one away after first hand lathering...The smell reminds me of some chemical, putrid smell... almost vomited... OJ on 19th Jan 2016
Just as the title says, the typical Stirling performance awesomeness applies; the scent is not something I would reach for in the shaving stash.
I like vetiver, and although this one isn't as earthy as some others are, there is a slight smokiness that I find beautiful; the fact that I personally didn't pick up much lemongrass, if any, makes the scent a lil two dimensional.
Once again, had to be honest. Great soap, scent just wasn't quite what I was hoping to find. Reid on 12th Jan 2016
I used this on New Years Eve, really enjoyed the scent; mainly vetiver with a hint of lemon that is just slightly noticeable. Outstanding product that gives a BBS shave! Chris Blackwood on 1st Jan 2016
I really am reminded of New Years Eve with the scent of the soap for some reason. To me it kind of smells like Black powder and the paper that it is wrapped in... Weird, I know. Maybe that is the 'earthy' smell, I don't know, but what I do know is that I like it, and the performance is top notch for me. This soap, when properly lathered is the SLICKNESS! I will be using this often in my rotation of shave soaps for sure!
Also to add, this came to my door so fast, I was in awe. Shipping is lightning fast and customer service is the best! Heavies on 2nd Jul 2015
I don't like the scent of this soap. There, I said it. To my nose, the lemongrass dominates to the point that it smells more like a citrus soap than vetiver. Maybe its just my olfactory peculiarities. Anyway, I wasn't thrilled by all the lemongrassiness - not my thing. So why on earth did I give it five stars? Quite simply, it gave me the best shaves of my life. It dethroned Cella as my best performing soap, which is quite an accomplishment. Unbelievably smooth BBS shaves with zero irritation and incredible post shave feel. Must be the French spa mud in it or something. Once I started getting down the end of the puck, the scent had dissipated to the point it didn't bug me so much. Tanker John on 29th Mar 2015
I decided to add a vetiver/vetyver-based soap to my shaving rotation. So, I decided to give Stirling Soap Co. Port-Au-Prince a "test drive".
My experience with all the Stirling line of shaving soaps is that in terms of lather-ability, volume and longevity of lather, and the residual slickness these soaps are top-shelf.
Port-Au-Prince is described as "earthy, grassy, and pungently sweet Haitian Vetiver combined with a small but uplifting kick of Lemongrass". I would say this description is pretty spot on with the possible exception of "earthy" as, to be honest, I am unsure what earthy is supposed to smell like. If it means 'smoky' as some vetivers are described, I am not picking that up. If you are looking for that "smoky" and 'darker' vetiver give Queen Charlotte's Soaps Vetiver a try.
Despite the absence of that 'smoky' scent I really enjoyed the aroma that wafts up from the warm lather as I am applying Port-Au-Prince to my face. This soap is beautifully crafted so there is not one dominant or overwhelming scent, just a sophisticated blending that lasts a fair bit, but not too long after the shave. The overall "take away" scent I detect is that of fresh cut grass. Now having said this, I guess you could use this soap year round, but I will likely reserve use of this Port-Au-Prince for the spring/summer season.
Finally, I find that either Guerlain's Vetiver or L'Occitane en Provence's Vetyver Eau-de-Toilette is the perfect accompaniment to a shave with Port-Au-Prince. Tim Sellati on 14th Mar 2015
Stirlings Port-au-Prince is a nice vetiver scent. The new formulation lathers like crazy. Unknown on 3rd Mar 2015
the scent was so bad that I didn't even try it, I just threw it away chad loos on 7th Feb 2015
I found the Port-Au-Prince to be an excellent performing soap. Easy to lather, slick, with great protection. I love the Haitian Vetiver. I didn't get much of the lemongrass but I thought it was well rounded. An excellent product at an outstanding price. Two thumbs up !!

I opened this one up and gave it whiff and thought " Gross! smells like a health shake and candles"
The next morning I opened it up, gave it a few sniffs and smelt wonderfull, clean, spa like freshness. Not sure if the first time it was sniffing all my other soaps first, or just a bad sniff day. Now this smells fine everyday, love the scent, feels good! The French clay leaves my skin feeling soft and irritation free, great lather! Zane on 6th Jan 2015
I am a new user and have not had time to use this long enough to form an opinion. I like the lather but think I prefer the Barbershop version better. Time will tell. Fisker on 24th Dec 2014
Like other soaps from Stirling, this offers a great shave and has a pleasing scent. rdsulver on 24th Dec 2014
At first I thought "Hum, this is nice. This smells really good. I'm gettin' a really smooth shave with this one. Yup, this is going in the rotation." I shaved with something else for a day or two, not low quality soap, either, and had to revisit Port-au-Prince. "Oh yeeaah, I really like this one - this is a real keeper." Now when I open the soap drawer, although there are lots of really good soaps in there, I pull out the Port-au-Prince, give it a deep inhale, and enjoy the best darned shave I can imagine. Oh well, it simplifies my purchasing decision, and makes it real quick to pick out my soap in the morning. Gary of Port-au-Prince on 18th Nov 2014
