This is my go-to Fall Scent. It's got everything you'd expect from sitting by a campfire outside near the Smokies.
If you like fall smells, you'll like this. It doesn't smell like a cologne or a Fougere exactly. It smells like fall leaves and smoky air. This scent stirs up a memory more than any of my other Stirling scents. I didn't like it at first, but now it's one of my favorites.
Being from East Tennessee, I naturally had to try this soap. The scent is what I had expected and I plan to work this into my rotation.
Just my devine scent
Being from Tennessee, I had to try the Gatlinburg soap. It lathered quite easily and provided slickness and comfort during my shave. I liked the scent very much.
Just what I was looking for. Sandalwood like earthy scent and the great Stirling quality.
Smells great and gives a great shave. As with all Stirling products you are never disappointed!
I used Gatlinburg for the first time today and I absolutely love it. I truly don't understand the negative reviews stating is smells like an ashtray or some other derogatory description. Yes, it's different, but I think it is very pleasant and manly smelling. It will definitely be used by me on a regular basis, it's awesome!
The quality of the soap is definitely there, but the fragrance doesn't work for me. I'm glad I only got a sample because it reminds me of the soap used in (clean) public restrooms. I'm not sure which of the scents is making it that way or if it's a combination. Despite not liking the scent, it doesn't smell bad, which I take as a sign that they don't use cheap scents.
Off the puck I got dead leaves and evergreen. Touch of smoke. After shaving with it it mellows out into a very manly smell like cedarwood and musk. Very nice and something I will definitely come back to it. I have yet to be disappointed with a Stirling scent.
I received a sample puck of this shave soap with an order. First smell wasn’t that bad. The more I sniffed it, the more it smelled similar to that of an ashtray. Don’t think I will be using this one. As the title of this review says, it is definitely not for me.
Piney, a little Smokey/pepper of a smell. To me it's a mellower version of Ben Franklin. I did not like this one when I first smelled it, so I went back to this one and I don't know what I was thinking. Top 3 so far. It really opens up when lathered. Wonderful smell.
It's odd that many of the reviews talk about fall scents in their reviews as the only thing I smelled with this was a lot of flowers. I wish I could smell some fall type scents as that is what I was hoping for but for me this was like walking into a room overflowing with flowers and then you eyes starting to water.
Don't get me wrong, this is not a review on Stirling, just on the scent of this one for me. Maybe mine was off, I don't know, but it smelled like one of those overly stinky Avon products that my grandma would have had.
I love Stirling soaps, but I am not a fan of this one. It kind of reminds me of moth balls.
I grew up not far from Gatlinburg and visited often when I was young, not so much for a decade or so while I was away, but now that I'm back in the SE again I try to go at least once a year, preferably in fall. This soap absolutely nails the feel of it. I love a lot of soaps from Stirling, and this is probably not even my favorite scent (though in the top 5 or so), but it is the one where the name and scent seem to line up most perfectly. Christmas Eve is probably second place on this list. Regardless, it is now a fall tradition for me to break this one out. And I take it with me when I go back home to visit TN. I've personally tested it the morning before traveling to Gatlinburg in fall and from that nonscientific but nonetheless compelling test I can safely say it is a perfectly named scent. Highly recommend the splash and bar soap as well.
Smells like a cousin of Stirling's Barbershop, but less powdery and little more woody and clean/fresh... hearkens back to an earlier time but in a different way than Barbershop.
I was intrigued by the scent description & it meets the mark, but there is some mossy note that isn't for me...not enough to make me not want to use it, just enough to make me wonder if I would purchase another sample in the future. The performance is top notch as always.
I write this review for anyone, who like me, was a little underwhelmed when first putting their nose to the soap. I don’t remember what I was imagining when I first bought this, but the initial scent didn’t quite meet my expectations.
HOWEVER! Once lathering, the scent really took off. The cedar wood notes, along with the smoky, woodsy aroma filled the bathroom and suddenly I was dropped into the mountains on a cool Autumn day with a flannel shirt on. Couple this with the AS splash and you’re in for a real treat IMO.
The only other Stirling soap I’ve tried was Lemon Chill, but this lives up to its standards. Slick, easy to lather, not finicky with water, and it leaves you feeling hydrated post shave. Hat tip to the folks at Stirling for a fantastic soap!
I went to college in Tennessee and there is a special place in my heart for Gatlinburg and the Smokies. This scent is very accurate. Although it is strong and opens up with the lather, I would not say it's too strong. Woodsy, spicy.
The soap lathers well, performs very well with shaving and the scent is fantastic. Definitely has a unique scent, not at all overwhelming. My wife says she doesn't always notice that I've used it, sometimes does. I love the way it smells while shaving, don't notice it afterward.
This was the first soap I tried from Stirling, and at first, I didn't really like it. The scent just seemed a little...old to me. But after the first few shaves, and feeling how well the actual soap worked (it's a really amazing product), it began to grow on me. I don't know if I'll buy it again, but I recommend trying it, that's for sure.
Soon after discovering the joys of artisan made shaving soap, I discovered that Stirling was widely used and that I needed to try it. Gatlinburg was high on my list because being from East TN, I’ve spent a lot of time in that area. I was shocked at how accurate it is. Woodsy, bright, masculine, and crisp like the unmistakable Smoky Mts in autumn. Pair that with the performance, packaging, and stellar price tag ($2.23/oz) and this product is nigh unbeatable. Thanks to Rod and his fam for making these wonderful products that truly capture the things and places that inspire the scents.
A bit of a disclaimer; I'm from Tennessee and visit Gatlinburg frequently so you had me at the name.
Initially, I really liked this soap.but after a week or so of using it exclusively, I realized the lasting part of the scent was to me, very smoky, and more of an "after the fire is out" scent. Figure out how to get that good woodsy, distant fire type smoke mixed with a touch of balsam, the coolness of a mountain stream and I'm in.
Lathers up nicely and makes shaving a breeze lol and I love the scent
Earth, leaves, trees, sage, smoke, maybe a hint of leather - this comes together to make, for me anyway, scent perfection! This brings back distinct memories of camping in the Mojave Desert.
This is a very rugged, outdoorsy scent, and makes me feel happy even while cooped up in an office all day. I will never be without Gatlinburg!
Received this along with 9 other scent samples. Fantastic scent and performance for a newbie like me!
Advertised as a fall scent remniscent of the outdoors, and by God, it'll transport you to the mountains. The smell reminds me of childhood camping trips to Cades Cove. Personally, I like to use a minty aftershave to illicit the feeling of a brisk November morning while the woodsy notes fade after shaving. I recommend this product.
Do not order this scent. It smells like you smoked cigarrettes for two days and the rolled in dry leaves!
Awful awful awful
My first thoughts went to taking a vintage quilt from a cedar hope chest. I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of scent in this soap and glad it wasn't too green of a cedar smell. It seems to smell better every time I use it. As always the lather is exceptional. Thanks Rod and Mandy
This scent is growing in me. At first I was unsure if I liked it. Reminds me of leather, a cigar humidor, campfire smoke and throw in some gasoline. Somehow it kinda works together and isn't offensive. A fall scent for sure.
So I changed my mind last minute and they sent me the Dunshire.
Absolutely amazing. Great leather and scent.
Thank You
Will I return? Yes!
