Old Man Gentleman

Wow, what can I say honestly?? This scent is just amazing. If you are looking for a shave soap that says, Yes I sip Scotch, two fingers, and enjoy smoking a cigar while sitting outside as the generation long ago once did and want to smell like those men did...this is it. This is that scent.
I remember running snacks for my grandfather as his friend's and him played poker or just chatted around a table. This is the smell of those old timer men in that room. As I danced in between them filling bowls of pretzels, I got wafts of there scents. Classic men, yet rowdy sometimes rude, but full of knowledge. This scent will make you stand up straight, push your chest out and shoulders back and know you are a proud gentleman! Wonderful job!!

Wonderful!

This is an absolutely wonderful scent! I've compared Agar to some samples of the "blood of a mystical creature" from other purveyors and Stirling's is just so well done. Exactly as described in the scent notes and perfectly blended. My wife absolutely loves this scent! At this point, the quality and value of Stirling products is undeniable to me. So glad I snagged a shave soap/AS set of this! Looks like the supply is running out (discontinued?) and I sure hope it comes back.

An awesome scent

I’ve had agar for a while and I love this scent. Best way for me to describe is a sweet, spicy, wood scent. Great for fall, winter and spring

Ehhh.

The soap is terrific. I absolutely love how it treats my skin. It lathers well. Clearly it's a well made soap. The scent is fairly non-existent. The soap smells...well like soap. The scent just isn't there. I expected a much stronger cedar / oud scent.

Light, refreshing woodsy scent with a hint of cedar/mint

Soap performance as always fantastic. Fragrance, IMHO, has an exotic woodsy scent with undertones of cedar. Note, the cedar note is not a true cedar scent. It is a hint of cedar that to also has a mint undertone to it. Unique and mysterious. This is not a dark fragrance, very light and refreshing. Easily in my top scents from Stirling. I have samples of the shave soap and splash. I will definitely be getting the cologne and after shave balm to pair with the soap. The fragrance from the soap and splash are not overpowering. The after shave splash lasts for a couple of hours and then wears off. Looking forward to the Eau de Toilette to have the fragrance last longer. Try the samples first and decide for yourself. For me, Agar could easily be a daily driver for me.

Great Soap

This scent is interesting. If you don't know what agarwood smells like the description doesn't mean anything lol. It's sort of like patchouli but more subtle and nuanced.

One thing I will say and I've noticed this with all stirling soaps, when I first opened it, it was overpowering and I didn't like it. It had sort of a musty quality and again was just too strong. But I shaved with it since I bought it and liked every other stirling soap. What can I say, it was a fantastic shave as usual. I was still a little unsure about the scent though. The other thing I've noticed about stirling soaps, they're very strong when you first open them, and then after 2-3 days they're just right, and then they stay that way. Day 1 was overpowering, day 2 was strong but less than day 1. On day 3 the smell was downright pleasant.

Again still like a mild and more spicy/woodsy patchouli. But I hate patchouli and I love this soap. If you're on the fence about it give it a try. I never would've bought it had I smelled it in the store, but it's grown on my and my wife likes it too. It's very distinct but in a good way.

My favorite

When I first discovered Stirling, I got three 1 oz sample pucks to start; I had picked two others I knew I wanted, but then saw this one and went, "Sounds interesting, sure, I'll take a gamble." Agar is the first one I opened when the package arrived, loved it, and it's still my favorite. Soon after ordered the 5.8 oz jar of it. My addition to their scent profile is there is the ever-so-slightest "sweet" note to it... there's something very old and familiar about this scent that I can't quite put my finger on (and that's echoed by everyone I've showed it to).

Super Nice

Has a prefect sweet Agar scent. Like all Stirling Soaps they are thirsty, thick, creamy, and slick. Unless you have allergies you get a lot of bang for your buck with Stirling.

Oh, and it smells great. Very Unique. Mellow.

Warm, sweet, slightly spicy

I'm only nine months in but already have a bunch of Stirling. I had this as a sample from my first order but hadn't gotten into it. It's basically what I was expecting and seems perfect. Warm, sweet, slightly spicy. Easy but not so subtle that you don't get joy from it.

Excellent

No regrets. Scent is nice, mildly exotic, agarwood aka oud, warm, pleasant, mostly gone at end of shave.

Great soap, don't like the smell.

All Stirling soap performs excellently. However, the scent of each one is unique and subject to your taste. I didn't particularly like Agar. It's a somewhat bitter and kind of like a medicine smell to me. But that's ok, you won't know unless you try it and Stirling samples make it possible to try a soap without spending a lot.

Oud perfection

This is spot on to the Tom Ford Oud Wood edp. It has a very crisp almost ozone quality that I can't get enough of! It smells exotic, while also clean and refreshing at the same time. With the same excellent quality that Stirling is known for, this will be a year round scent for me. I ordered the refill puck and aftershave, but am already putting in an order for the full tub and a second bottle of aftershave because I know I will burn through my stash quickly. I have quickly moved Stirling into my top 3 go to soap companies and they will solidly stay there with the top notch quality and scent profiles!

The scent I have been looking for!!

I have been wet-shaving for about 7 years now. In that time frame I have tried out many soaps in the various forms and scent types/profiles. I myself like the WOOD scents like CEDAR and SANDALWOOD and at the top of that wood piramid is the Ardarwood. The scent of this soap is just wonderful. When I had a long beard, I used beard oils and my favorite one was Argarwood. Until now I haven't been able to enjoy the scent due to being clean shaved. Anyways, Stirling is my hero and came through with a straight up home run out the park with this one!! I will be ordering the whole range of products with this AGAR scent;
Soap, Splash and Balm. Seriously, this scent is the one I have been searching for and let me tell you I had communicated with other artisans about a custom scent and even sent the beard oil to match the scent and no one even come close. So great job guys!! It is my official favorite scent of ALL-TIME!

Excellent

It's a very pleasant, mildly exotic, oud (agarwood) smell. Ive tried expensive recent releases of oud fragrances (ie one by Tom Ford) so i figured if it is anything like that, i cant lose. It is in the ballpark of expensive oud cologne scents. The performance as a shaving soap is excellent, better than I would reasonably expect but Im no expert. Having used Tabac and Stirling shaving soaps, Im not searching for better performing soaps.

Nice aroma!

Smells great! Not overpowering and pleasant to wake up to. Got a pre-release puck (two actually) because it was a good price, but this really smells great and I love Stirling Soap anyway so I already knew it would "work" well.

Agar-A Winner!

I used the new Agar for the second time today. It is improved over the initial test formula. It leans more to the Agar/Oud side now. I would describe it as a "light, clean, woodsy" scent, but then I am terrible at describing scents..................
I do wish the scent was stronger. Another winner from Rod & Mandy!

Great Scent - Great Soap

Just received it. I wanted to give it a spin. Scent is nice. Not overpowering at all. Kind of reminds me of Old Spice Musk from India. More sweet & spicy. The soap performance is typical of Sterling: Easy to lather, nice consistency and slick as ice. Another winner from Sterling!

Tested the first batch, not impressed by scent

I bought the first batch and the scent is not oud. It was way too light scented ot be oud. The soap was also a little to soft but a little curing on the slef can fix that. now the slickness lather and cushion was spot on with other Stirling soaps. Will try htis Argar final batch and update.

Enticing scent, great performance

I love this fragrance. It smells clean, like freshly laundered towels. Whenever I lathered up, the fragrance I got was definitely cedar - slightly, faintly sweet, and then woody notes. I could pick up on the Oud as well. I didn't really detect the smokiness but whatever Rod has mixed up for this fragrance, he did great. It is a winner. After I rinsed the soap off, I could still catch whiffs of the fragrance for some time.

My wife loves it. The last fragrance I tried, she said smelled too perfumey. Not this one. I love this fragrance because it is subtle and sophisticated, clearly masculine, and not overpowering.

As with all of the other Stirling Soaps that I've tried, this one goes on smoothly and lathers well. The razor just glides over my face. I have very sensitive skin, and all the Stirling Soaps make the shave much more pleasant.
